Anyone who has ever suffered from chronic acne knows how devastating it can be. Not only does it have physically damaging effects but it has emotional and psychological effects that run deep into the subconscious.
Many people who successfully clear their skin, report feeling like the acne is still there. And sometimes this feeling takes years to go away. Acne sufferers get used to hiding their face from the world. And even when acne disappears the need to hide lives on. They fear the acne coming back. They feel anxious with every small pimple that forms, terrified to feel that devastation all over again.
We all have imperfections. No one is perfect. Imperfection is not a bad thing. Imperfections are what make us different and unique. Many acne sufferers believe that acne equals happiness and freedom. Clear skin means all their problems will be solved and they can finally live their lives. The truth is that often once acne is gone, the person finds a new imperfection to obsess over. This is because the person has never learned to love themselves fully and truly accept themselves, despite their flaws.
While it is completely possible to clear your acne, it more important to learn to accept yourself and see yourself as the incredibly beautiful creature that you are. Attaching happiness to appearance is a dangerous road. Youth is not eternal and one day we will age and we will wrinkle. Our appearance will change which means that we need to accept and love ourselves fully, or we can never experience authentic happiness.
I challenge you to consider this possible. Know that it is possible. Close your eyes and see yourself. See yourself for all the beauty you are, inside and out. Beauty is not defined by the red marks on your face. Beauty is who you are inside, the relationships you have developed and way you have expressed yourself in this world.
Start each day with the intension to do everything you want to do, regardless of what you think you look like. Take a moment first thing in the morning and connect with yourself and your inner beauty. Take three deep breathes and feel your whole self and soul.
Be grateful for the acne. Know that it is only your body trying to help you, pushing toxins out the body, rather than keeping them inside. Thank your body for every single pimple on your face and body. Be thankful and send your body all your love.
Know that in this moment, the acne is a part of you. It is not an imperfection but something that makes you incredibly strong and incredibly beautiful.
Now open your eyes and know that you are better off. Smile. Stop hiding. Now get out there and live your incredible life, acne and all.
