“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways I love you.” – Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Awww…isn’t that SOOOOO sweet?
But who does this anymore?
All we do is say, “I love you” and move on to the next emotion.
We don’t really get down and dirty with it and count all the ways why we truly love something. So, let’s dive deep with this concept in relation with food.
I remember growing up as a kid, singing my love for ice cream.
But looking back, I realize I would mostly sing about it’s yummy taste. But what does that mean, yummy? That is so vague.
Or, how delicious it smells and beautiful it looks. Again, what does that mean? That is so subjective.
Let’s stop being lazy with our moments and get really descriptive to take the time and energy to be poetic with our eating experience again.
Take into account how it sounds and feel in your mouth and your WHOLE body. Follow your food as it journeys through your body and how it feels.
Even going beyond the five senses, and taking others variables into account during the eating experience like the environment, atmosphere, who is with you, your posture, emotions, and anything else.
Also, being reflective afterwards and counting the ways a food loves back. Not just about how we love and adore it.
How does your body feel afterwards? Did the food help or hinder your body?
Do you feel more sluggish or energized?
Were you left feeling satisfied or less full-filled even though you ate tons and can’t hold anymore food?
Using the extremely descriptive measures above will help to really discover your own unique eating moments. Everyone has their own definition of what is enjoyable and what makes it beautiful.
Hence, why you can’t hijack someone else’s food love letter (or diet)! You got to do the work yourself.
Remember, this is unique to YOU! I promise, you can’t go wrong in exploring why you passionately love the foods as you do.
Be honest and real with yourself, fake food love letters won’t serve you.
Also during the process, you might find out you don’t really love certain foods as much as you thought. Don’t let it get you down because this is awesome news that you’re discovering what you are truly passionate for.
Writing food love letters not only paints a clearer picture to yourself, but to others too. When you explain so passionately, why you eat the way you do so poetically, others will catch on and want to pledge to eat mindfully too!
Write a food love letter using the methods above to discover which foods are designed for you, while activating your body wisdom.
